The Old Site Was Fine But...

When Merry Robin Publishing was first born, we toyed around with trying to create a website. It didn't take long for us to get overwhelmed and nix that idea. We decided to carve out a space on my personal blog, www.Life-OnPurpose.com. That worked well for quite some time, but eventually, we outgrew that option. We wanted to create a dedicated space for our fledgling company to stand on its own two feet. The desire was there, but we still had no web development skills to make it happen.

The Right Partner

We were so grateful when we had the opportunity to partner up with MacKay Killian and make this new site a reality. MacKay is a web developer with a keen eye for design. He listened to our list of ideas and mapped out a plan.

Only One Way to Eat An Elephant

You know that old saying? The one that goes, "There's only one way to eat an elephant." The adage holds true. The only way to eat an elephant is bite by bite. MacKay patiently guided us through understanding and proceeding with each bite of our proverbial elephant.

We began by collaborating and gathering ideas on a Pinterest mood board. Seeing everything grouped together in a single place really helped us narrow down on a brand kit, including fonts and a color palette. Once that was done, MacKay created a client portal for Holly and I to see his progress and understand the process.

As the website began taking shape, we couldn't believe how clean cut and well designed it was. It looked fresh, light, and soft. It looked inviting and easy to navigate. MacKay helped us articulate our business process and pricing in a way that was quick and easy to understand. He truly took everything we had asked for and made it a reality.

Drumroll Please

And here we are! We are so excited to share our new website with you! There are a few extra elements MacKay included that really make our site shine.

The first is his use of my watercolor artwork. I was thrilled when he said he could incorporate my art into the website. He even went the extra mile by incorporating some of the colors within the paintings into the site's overall color scheme.

Second, remember how (back in the early 2000s) you could personalize your cursor? We're bringing that back, starting right now. If you haven't visited our website on a computer with a mouse yet, give it a go and let us know what you think!

Finally (this is one of my favorites) be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the website and take a look at the footer. In the footer, you will be able to see what Holly is currently reading. For anyone who may not know, Holly is a VORACIOUS reader. In 2023, Holly read 365 books. No joke. Her rule was that the book had to be a minimum of 100 pages, and Holly never ever cheats on her own rules. The girl is a wonder. Check out the footer every time you visit merryrobinpublishing.com and follow her on Goodreads to read her reviews on all of these books. Your TBR list will never be the same.

We are beyond grateful to MacKay Killian for creating a website beyond our wildest imaginations. He is a pleasure to work with and an all around amazing human being. If you ever need a website built, be sure to talk to MacKay!
